Joesjö fishing district

The fishing waters here have been untouched by the development of hydro power unlike many others rivers in the region.

Area:
Joesjö district lies close to the Norwegian border, in the Jovattsdalen valley and bisected by the Krutfjellsvägen, a route that heads to Hattfjelldal in Norway. The area comprises the lakes Övre Jovattnet, Kalven, Skälvattnet, the small tarns north of Joesjö and the stretches of rivers and streams that flow and out of the lakes. The eastern border is where the Skällvattsbäcken stream joins the Jovattsån river.
The fishing waters here are have been untouched by the development of hydro power unlike many others rivers in the region. During summer, a fishing trip entails a trek up the mountain or along wooded trails, while in winter it is combined with a snowmobile ride. All fishing in the area is easily accessible.

Summer fishing:
A worm or fly is the recommended bait for the flowing waters of Skälvatssbäcken and Jovattsån. In Lake Övre Jovattnet, multi-line trolling (using surface flies) is permitted, while in Kalven, where the use of nets has been forbidden for the past 30 years, you should use a deeper trolling method using up to four spoons.

Winter fishing:
Ice fishing is very popular and each area can be easily reached on skis or snowmobile.

Species:
Trout, arctic char
