The railwaystation

One late winter evening in November 1923, the first train entered Storuman's railway station.
The station building was designed by SJ's chief architect Folke Zettervall and it was built in between the years of 1921-1925.

The house is timbered with horizontal timber on the 1st floor and has a gabled roof. The style has features of both national romanticism and 1920s classicism. In 1961, the station building was renovated and in 1986 the building became a state building monument. The inland railway opened to traffic on 15 November 1923 between Storuman - Vilhelmina and 1 December 1929 between Storuman - Sorsele. Initially, all traffic was dominated by trains pulled by steam locomotives, when the rail buses made their entrance, they took over passenger traffic.
