Trails to Vuoppeskalet and Jireskalet
From Umasjö there are summer and winter trails up to Norra Storfjället mountain. After following the same route for some kilometres up to the bare mountain above the treeline the trails divide, the southerly one going via Vuoppeskalet to Syterstugan hostel, 20 km, while the northerly one leads through Jireskalet on to lake Tärnasjön. At lake Jirejaure on the approach to Jireskalet there is an open cabin with four beds, 8 km from the village Umasjö. The cabin has an emergency telephone. There is rose quartz just outside the cabin.

Three km further into Jireskalet, 11 km from the road, lies the Glimmerstugan cabin. Mica was quarried here from the 1930s until 1952. Thin sheets of this slate mineral were used as insulation in electric motors and as windows in stoves. The cabin was restored by the Västerbotten county administrative board in 1995. It has four beds and is available for public use.
